Here's a post Susan wrote for Blasting News raising the all important question - Does your dog love you more than you love it?
It was written a few weeks ago, but it is doing so well, we thought we'd share it here.
We all love science facts that back up what we know to be true.
Our dogs love us heaps, loads, a lot... they seem to simply adore us.
And we love our dogs. They are funny, warm, patient and, in the case of a well-trained dog, they make us look good (most of the time).
Dog have become such a huge part of our world, it would be difficult to imagine life without them.
The question this article asks is do our dogs love us more than we love them?
Well, science has jumped in and offered us proof - the scientific kind.
Oxytocin is a hormone released when we mammals are feeling clucky, loving or "in the mood" 😉
Every mammal in the world has them which is convenient because scientists can measure the levels.
The experiment was simple:
The hormone levels were measured before and after physical contact like petting and stroking. Dog owners were asked to sit down with their dogs and make a fuss of them.
The hormones were measured and calculated and the results are surprising.
They also measured the hormone increases in cats too. Anyone with a cat won't be surprised at the results, though!
